COMMON HOUSEHOLD PESTS:

What We Do

Our pest control programs are designed with your budget and comfort in mind and delivered by trained, dedicated service technicians.  And since insects are the most diverse group of organisms on Earth, we have categorized some commonly found pests in New Jersey that can help you identify your pest issue.

Keep in mind that when you are seeing pests in and around your property there may already be underlying issues present that may include moisture, mold growth, air leaks, and odor that attract pests in your home (primarily the crawlspace).  It is quite common for pests to be attracted to dark confined spaces that allow them to thrive throughout the year. Additionally, if there is a food source, such as food left overnight or open garbage can then pests will appear and can get out of control very quickly. This is why is a good idea to have your home inspected and maintained annually to keep such pests at bay.

Mice

Rodents tend to seek shelter indoors during colder climates.  They can squeeze through an opening the size of a dime to find food and shelter.  Once inside, they can contaminate food sources, transport fleas and spread diseases such as plague, murine typhus, and hantavirus pulmonary syndrome.

Ants

Ants are one of the most frequent and common pests found. These pests are persistent and often a nuisance. Ants find their way indoors in search of food and are commonly found in the kitchen, where food, like crumbs, is left behind. There are thousands of ant species that live and work together in highly organized societies called colonies.

Spiders

Depending on the species, spiders can be found in both damp and warm, dry parts of buildings.  Most species hide in cracks, darkened areas, or in shelters they make from silk.

Camelback Crickets

Camelback crickets are commonly found in damp dark spaces, like a crawlspace or basement. They get their name from the humpback appearance, like a camel. These pests are attracted to moisture and eat fungus, plant matter, other insects, fabric, paper, and even other crickets if no other food is available.

WOOD DESTROYING INSECTS:

It is imperative to identify the difference between a common household insect and a wood-destroying insect.  The presence of wood-destroying insects is alarming in a home inspection report during the home buying process.

When it's a buyer's market, meaning the housing market favors buyers when home prices are low and there are many properties available for sale, a buyer may shy away from the transaction when wood-destroying insects are mentioned in a home inspection report.

Keeping your home free of such pests requires a professional service to certify the proper treatment has been administered by a licensed pest control company. Crawlspace Solutions is here to help you correctly identify your pest issue and provide the appropriate treatment. Wood-Destroying Insect (WDI) Reports are available with a complete termite inspection service.

Carpenter Ants

Found throughout the United States in a variety of species.  The tunnels they excavate in wood are clean, almost sandpapered in appearance, unlike termite tunnels.  Shredded fragments of wood are ejected from the galleries through preexisting cracks or slits made by the ants.  Carpenter ants nest in both moist and dry wood but prefer wood which is moist.
